LINDSEY GARDENER
Lindsey Gardener graduated in Printed Textiles in 1996, and went on to do an MA at Winchester School of Art. The first book that she wrote and illustrated was “Here come Poppy and Max” which was published in 2000. Since then, she has had books published in many languages all over the world. For a few years, Lindsey wrote and illustrated stories for a Japanese children’s magazine. The original characters from the “Poppy and Max” series are growing up slightly and progressing to an older format of book for school children in a series of eight ‘first readers’ for Orchard Books.
As well as writing her own stories, Lindsey also illustrates other peoples. “Doing the Animal Bop”, written by Jan Ormerod, and “Who Wants a Dragon” by James Mayhew have been shortlisted for children’s Literature awards. Lindsey recently illustrated an unusual book “Trosclair and the Alligator” by Alabama poet Peter Huggins.
Lindsey also finds time to fit in some “grown up” drawing and painting which has an increasing influence on the style of her books. She has a WASPS Artist’s studio at Meadowmill in Dundee and teaches textiles at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art.
